Our company was founded in 2010 by Gary Langer, an internationally recognized survey researcher who directed polling at ABC News from 1990-2010 and The Associated Press from 1986-90. A frequent speaker and writer on the measurement and meaning of public opinion, Langer is vice chair of the nonprofit Roper Center for Public Opinion Research, U.S. national representative and transparency chair for the World Association of Public Opinion Research, past trustee and disclosure chair of the National Council on Public Polls, former president of the New York chapter of the American Association for Public Opinion Research and a past national AAPOR committee member.
Our team members are highly trained in social science research, holding advanced degrees in political science, communication, sociology, human geography, survey methods and statistics. We often employ statistical modeling to ascertain key predictors of the attitudes and behaviors of interest to our partners. While our work chiefly focuses on approachable analysis and actionable results, our studies have been accepted for presentation at many professional conferences and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
In a time of widespread convenience sampling, we focus our survey work on probability-based sampling, given its necessity for valid and reliable inference within a calculable margin of sampling error. We also produce richly detailed qualitative research, via in-person focus groups and moderated, asynchronous online forums.
In addition to our domestic assignments, we have a substantial international research practice, with recent surveys in dozens of countries on six continents. Among other assignments, we are the largest provider of international surveys to the Pew Research Center, with more than 80 country surveys aacross Europe, Asia and Latin America since 2018.
Our work has been recognized in four news Emmy awards and 12 Emmy nominations, the only Emmys to cite public opinion polls; the 2015 David R. Ogilvy Award for Excellence in Advertising Research; and the 2010 Policy Impact Award of the American Association for Public Opinion Research, for a seven-year series of surveys in Iraq and Afghanistan cited as “a stellar example of high-impact public opinion polling at its finest.” The ABC News/Washington Post poll, which we produced for ABC, was one of a handful of surveys to receive “A+” ratings from the polling review site FiveThirtyEight.
We are proud to be a charter member of AAPOR’s Transparency Initiative and adhere fully to its Code of Professional Ethics and Practices.
